We drink Eight o'Clock coffee at our house.
No; I mean we drink Eight o'Clock coffee. Average: just over 12 pounds a month for the two of us. (Is that a lot?)
Love the flavor, love the smell; love the coffee.
We've actually been drinking Eight o'Clock pretty exclusively for at least a dozen years. Maybe more. It's an old friend.
So when it started tasting funny a few weeks ago it was a surprise the first week, and a let down the second week and downright disconcerting by the third week. I'd noticed that the bags of whole beans had been weirdly puffy for a few weeks and then I finally got 2 and 2 together and realized that the CO2 from the beans was producing the strange bitterness.
On a whim and not expecting to much I called the 800 phone number on the bag and, to my surprise, not only got to express my concern about the diminishing flavor and my guesses as to the cause for it but I was clearly being taken seriously.
Wow.
The phone was answered by a human being who wanted to know about the flavor and who was taking note on what I said. It was like ... I mattered!
I was expecting to be asked about the package so I had the open one with me when I dialed. But they were so serious about it that they asked if we had any more packages in the house. When I said that we did, the asked me about those bags using my own terms to ask about them. In other words, they were listening!
And that's what I really wanted to say. Not only does Eight o'Clock taste great, but they take you -- that is, us -- seriously and really do want to know what we think about their product. Swell!
When we next went shopping a few days after that call, all of the Eight o'Clock bags had been replaced at the store! Great flavor, take us seriously, and ACTION!
That's it. That's all I wanted to say; Eight o'Clock coffee -- Great coffee and Respect. Cool.
