Be Careful Where You Roam -- on the Web

The antivirus people at McAfee released a report about a survey they did of "dangerous domains". It pretty much confirms shared wisdom: if the domain ends with .cn (China) or .hk (Hong Kong) and it seems to be aggressively seeking your browser; get away!

According to McAfee, the domains .cn, .hk and .info are, percentage wise, the most likely to be spreading malware. Of the sites that they surveyed, 19+% of .hk sites were carriers of malware! The .cn and .info populations came in at just under 12%.

The .com group came in at just over 5% and I have to (naively) say that I'm surprised the percentage is that high. One in twenty sites is spreading malware? (Hmmm. Are they counting cookies too?)

The .gov domains turned out to be safest domains to visit. yay. No; really. (You're doing a great job, Brownie.)

Be careful "where" you roam on the web.
