More Things Missing from iPod Touch

It's only been a week or so but it's already time to update my list of things missing from the iPod Touch.

I do still really admire the visionary design of this gizmo and, of course, it's heftier sibling the Apple iPhone. But the more I use it the more I realize what I can't do with it that, well, I'm sorry to say, I just assumed would be there.

This is starting to feel like when John McCain dropped out of the 2000 primaries. Somebody has to be getting something under the table somewhere to make this not happen.

I mean, in 2008, a web browser that doesn't run Java? or Flash? Like, hello? And, how's this for sounding like a payoff somewhere: this is an Apple handheld computer that connects to the internet whenever it finds an open WiFi access point, but it won't play Quicktime streams. (Shut up Steve Jobs and get ___ ____ over yourself; it is what it is.)

So to go with the list of Things Missing From the iPod Touch that I already started, here are a few more things that should already be there but... just aren't.

Java & Flash updates
What could Steve Jobs and the Touch/iPhone project managers possibly have been thinking when they approved this plan? The FTC should take a look at what Apple is getting away when it says that the iPhone & iPod Touch will surf the web when these two requisite web-powering plugins cannot be kept up to date. Come on; even Microsoft knows you have to do this much.

Internet Radio
Wifi device... quick time player... Hello? Reality to Apple? Get in touch please. (Pun intended.)
